1915 Mooresville
motorists lined up for service at D. K. McNeely's livery-turned-service-station
on the corner of North Main Street and East Moore Avenue. After a
devastating fire, McNeely sold out to John T. McNeely, who opened a
new brick service station on the corner of Iredell Avenue and North
Main Street. B. A. Troutman modernized the block with brick
buildings housing the Carolina Theater and Raylasses Department
Store. A filling station, along with Harry Keeter's taxi stand and
bus garage, was built on the corner in 1929. By 1946 the Delk
Furniture Store, later Delk's 5¢ & 10¢ store, was constructed.
Morrow Brothers Furniture and other small businesses operated until
Bob and Deanna Gabriel purchased the building in 1989, operating
Gabriel and Sons Sporting Goods until 2006. |
